To fulfill our mission, Mainspring relies on a committed group of part -time volunteers. Our volunteers come from a variety of ages and backgrounds, but they all share a common interest in helping others. Thanks to their help, Mainspring is able to operate with only 3.25 full time equivalent paid positions. This has a direct impact upon our ability to serve members of our community in need.
Here's what some of our volunteers have to say about their experience, when asked what brings them to Mainspring each day:
" I feel that I am helping people who need help. Being at Mainspring is an important part of my week."
"I have what I need, so I want to help others get what they need."
" What brings me here each day? The people I work with are the best. The feeling that I am giving back. My motto is,'I give and I get back'".

We have an ongoing need for the following positions:
Drivers: We are in need of drivers who have a good safety record and are available to help with morning pick ups of food, clothing, and other items.
We are also in need of drivers who can assist us in distributing 30 pound food boxes to low income seniors the second and third week of every month. Drivers for the senior food box program must be capable of repeated lifting of 30 pound boxes, as they are loaded and unloaded to and from our cargo van for delivery to each distribution site.
Driving shifts typically consist of 2-3 hours shifts starting at 8:30 Monday through Thursday. Drivers will be responsible for driving a large cargo van as well as our smaller van as needed.
Food Pantry Volunteers: We have an ongoing need for food pantry helpers to assist us in stocking the shelves in our food pantry as well as helping shoppers select the appropriate number of grocery items for their family size. Food pantry helpers must be comfortable with standing, bending, and lifting. Typical shifts are once day a week from 9:30-1:30 Monday through Wednesday. We can also accommodate split shifts.
Clothing Program Volunteers: We are in need of volunteers in the clothing closet to help with sorting, organizing, and hanging donated clothing. Clothing clerks will also assist visitors to the clothing closet in selecting the appropriate number of items according to their family size. Clothing clerk shifts are available Monday through Thursday 9:30-1:30.
Check in Desk: Great program participants as they arrive. Welcome them into our program.
Interviewers: Provide intake services to identify what services the participant is here to receive. Enter intake information into a database. Lend an ear and give a smile.
